David Lammy has been MP for Tottenham since a 2000 by-election, becoming the youngest member of the Commons at the time. A barrister and the first Black Briton to study at Harvard Law School, he held junior ministerial posts under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, including Minister for Skills, before more than a decade on the backbenches and frontbench under successive Labour leaders.
He was Foreign Secretary from July 2024, then Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Chancellor and Justice Secretary from September 2025, succeeding Angela Rayner. He left the Cabinet on 20 July 2026 when Andy Burnham reshuffled his top team on becoming Prime Minister.
