Privacy notice

We collect as little as possible. This explains what we collect, why, and your choices, under UK data-protection law (UK GDPR and PECR).

The newsletter

If you subscribe, we store your email address so we can send you a summary of new proposals and calculators (about once a fortnight). We use it only for that. We don't sell or share it. You can unsubscribe at any time, after which we delete your address.

Polls

When you vote in an article poll, we record the vote so we can show aggregate results. To stop the same browser voting repeatedly, we set a small cookie that simply remembers you've voted on that page. It contains no personal information and is not used for tracking or advertising.

Saved articles

If you "save" an article, that preference is stored only in your own browser (local storage). It never leaves your device and we can't see it.

What we don't do

We don't run advertising, we don't sell data, and we don't use third-party tracking or advertising cookies. Any website analytics we use are configured to be privacy-friendly and aggregated.

Hosting

The site is served via Cloudflare, which processes technical information such as IP addresses to deliver and secure the site, as is standard for any website.

Your rights

You can ask what data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to its use. For the newsletter, the simplest route is to unsubscribe. For anything else, contact [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Changes

We'll update this notice if our practices change, and note the date of the latest version here.

A plain-English summary, not legal advice.
