About
Keir Starmer led Labour back to power in July 2024 with a landslide, and announced his intention to resign as Labour leader and Prime Minister on 22 June 2026, days after a heavy by-election defeat. He remains PM until the handover to Andy Burnham, expected on 20 July 2026.
A barrister by background, he was Director of Public Prosecutions from 2008 to 2013 and entered Parliament in 2015. As PM his government legislated the Renters' Rights Act, the Border Security Command, the scrapping of the two-child benefit limit, the Defence Investment Plan and the NHS 10-Year Plan — all of which stay in force under his successor unless changed.
