Steve Reed has been Housing, Communities and Local Government Secretary since September 2025, after serving as Environment Secretary. A former leader of Lambeth Council, he has been an MP since winning the 2012 Croydon North by-election.
His brief includes implementing the Renters' Rights Act — Section 21 abolition commenced 1 May 2026, with the PRS Database, Landlord Ombudsman and Decent Homes Standard following from late 2026 — and Labour's wider housebuilding push.
