Wes Streeting has been Health Secretary since 2024, driving the NHS 10-Year Plan to shift care out of hospitals and into neighbourhood health centres. An MP since 2015 and a former president of the National Union of Students, he is one of the most prominent voices on Labour's reforming wing.
Widely expected to run for the leadership in 2026, he instead stood aside and backed Andy Burnham — a move that consolidated Burnham's near-unanimous nomination by Labour MPs in July 2026.
