Zack Polanski became Green Party leader in September 2025 on an “eco-populist” platform, moving the party toward a louder, redistribution-first economic message. He has sat on the London Assembly since 2021 and was previously the party's deputy leader.
The Green tax agenda under his leadership is the boldest of any major party: an annual wealth tax above £10m, capital gains taxed at income-tax rates, and full-rate National Insurance on high earners — paired with spending pledges on childcare, tuition fees and energy bills.
