Rachel Reeves became the UK's first female Chancellor in July 2024. Her November 2025 Budget set much of the tax landscape this site models: income tax thresholds frozen to 2030/31, the £2m+ “mansion tax” surcharge from April 2028, and the EV per-mile charge — alongside the earlier scrapping of the two-child benefit limit.
An economist who worked at the Bank of England before entering Parliament in 2010, she was closely identified with Keir Starmer's fiscal strategy and backed him through the 2026 leadership crisis. With Andy Burnham expected to appoint his own Chancellor around 20 July 2026, she is widely expected to be replaced.
